We have a small number of competitive scholarships available for early career scholars (PhD students and postdoctoral researchers).

Application Requirements

If you are interested in applying, please send the following information to 2026@visionsinmethodology.org with the subject line "Application for VIM Travel Scholarship":

  1. 1. A recent CV
  2. 2. A draft of the paper you would like to present, OR if this is not yet ready, another representative sample of your academic work
  3. 3. A brief statement (<700 words) describing your broader research agenda and expected substantive and methodological contributions
  4. 4. The location from which you will be traveling

  • The statement may be either an attachment or in the body of the email
  • Please make sure all attachments are PDFs

Getting to Berlin

By Air

Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is Berlin's main international airport, located approximately 30 km from the city center.

  • Airport Express trains (FEX, RE7, RB14) run every 20 minutes to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (30 minutes)
  • S-Bahn lines S9 and S45 connect to central Berlin (45 minutes)
  • Taxi to the conference venue takes approximately 40 minutes

By Train

Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) is one of Europe's largest train stations and is just a 10-minute walk from the Hertie School.

  • High-speed ICE trains connect Berlin to major German cities
  • International connections to Amsterdam, Paris, Vienna, and more
  • The conference venue is within walking distance of the station

Budget-Friendly Alternative

The area immediately around the conference is somewhat more expensive than other fun neighborhoods in Berlin. Public transit is excellent, making it easy to stay in other parts of the city. For a more budget-friendly alternative with desirable locations all around Berlin, check out Numa.
